The Las Vegas Strip started on its northern edge, close to the city limits.
Back in 1941, Thomas Hull opened the at San Francisco Street and Highway 91.
Today, those streets are Sahara Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Over the years, development pushed southward until, in 1999, opened just north of Russell Road.

The Sahara was sold with the intention of a massive redevelopment.
Then came 2008, and the Great Recession.
The Plaza Las Vegas, which would have replaced the Frontier, never got started.
And the Sahara held on a few years longer, since funding for a radical reconstruction was suddenly hard to come by.
Fast forward a few years.
The Sahara finally was closed in 2011, gutted to the girders, and reopened as the SLS in 2014.
SLS did not reinvigorate that end of the Strip; on the contrary, it struggled until the Meruelo Group.
The new owners have announced a renovation and plans to refocus the property, at least partially, on the.
Much of the work on the renovation and rebrand will be completed next year.
The new Sahara, though, will have some neighbors this time around, thanks to moves by two very different developers to construct and complete two of the most notable victims of the recession.
The closest of those neighbors is the property at 2755 South Las Vegas Boulevard.
That land has a long history, going back to the Thunderbird, which opened in 1948.
Briefly renamed the Silverbird and then the El Rancho, the casino closed in 1992.
Although several plans to redevelop it emerged, none gained traction until 2005, when Fontainebleau Resorts, owner of the eponymous Miami Beach hotel, bought the land and announced plans to build a massive Fontainebleau on the Las Vegas Strip.
Earlier this year, they announced plans to complete the project, which will be called The Drew, and partner with Marriott International.
When it opens in late 2020, the property is planned toEDITION and JW Marriott.

There are some questions about how Resorts World will fill the 3,500 rooms spread across three hotels that will comprise its.
Initial plans seemed to call for a focus on the Chinese middle-market visitor, which the prospect of a trade war with China has put in jeopardy.
But with construction ramping up, it would appear that Resorts World is optimistic about its chances in 2020.
Once, Las Vegas-based gaming operators like Boyd Gaming, Caesars Entertainment, New casino on the las vegas strip Resorts, Las Vegas Sands, and MGM Resorts seemed to have a monopoly on major new Strip developments.
Each of these three projects succeeding would be good news for their developers, Las Vegas visitors and localsand even their casino rivals.
The uproar over parking and resort fees on the Strip revealed widespread trepidation, if not resentment, of the increasingly concentrated ownership on the Strip.
Three new options can only benefit customers and employees, who will have three more options when it comes to playing or working.
And other casino companies, while they may chafe at the increased competition, will likely benefit from the new visitors that these properties can draw.
Over the next two years, we shall see if any of the three newcomers will earn a place on that list.
